Update on Buzzard Greenstead…
After a speedy recovery, Buzzard Greenstead was ready to be released back from whence he came. I gave him his British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) ring on Thursday in preparation for his release on Saturday. Met up with John who had originally found the two Buzzards. We took Greenstead back to the the exact spot in Brookes Nature Reserve where he was found with legs intertwined with another Buzzard, and then caught up in the long grass. He obviously got off very lightly compared to his opponent, who is still under Veterinary treatment and will be for some time. Definitely not hanging around, Greenstead flew off immediately into some nearby trees and, very shortly afterwards, headed off across the field to a nearby copse. (Video can be seen on Facebook pages). Flying beautifully, full of attitude and looking superb, I have no worries about this cookie making it back in the wild.
