I knew this had been my busiest year ever, but it’s only when you sit down and count up the number of birds you have helped over the past 12 months that you realise how many have been rehabilitated. The grand total for 2022 is 73 Owls and Birds of Prey. Wow!
Of these :
* 29 were Tawny Owls
* 14 Kestrels
* 13 Buzzards
* 6 Barn Owls
* 6 Sparrowhawks
* 3 Red Kites
* 1 Little Owl
* 1 Peregrine Falcon
Out of this total, I hand-reared four Tawny Owlets, two Barn Owl chicks and one Little Owl chick.
The absolute highlight of the year was the adult female Red Kite and the stunning Peregrine Falcon – truly magnificent birds.
Whilst the majority of these birds were rehabilitated and released back into the wild, sadly some didn’t make it either because their injuries were too serious, and they had to be put to sleep, or they had been left in the wild too long to be saved. I always say, the sooner you get a bird to a Rehabber, the better the chance they have of saving them.
At least we end the year knowing that we have helped so many Owls and Birds of Prey and got them back where they belong. Let’s see what 2023 has to offer…
