Really sad case reported to me over the weekend by a local wildlife photographer. He had been following this Barn Owl and her remaining chick for a few weeks and the little one was branching and getting ready to fledge. Sadly he discovered the adult Barn Owl hanging from the wires near to their nest box and she had apparently been there since Friday evening. We checked the box but the young Barnie was not there and was later spotted high up in a nearby oak tree so was not accessible for rescue. Decided the only option at the moment was to do some supplementary feeding to give the young owl a chance to fully fledge. If he came down to a sensible level, we would try and capture him and complete his growing up in the safety of one of my Aviaries. Unfortunately this has not happened yet but we will continue feeding until such time as we can catch him or he starts hunting for himself. Fingers crossed for this little guy…
