Kestrel, Maplestead, gets her British Trust for Ornithology Ring…

As we were ringing Tawny Owl Hawstead today, it made sense to also ring Kestrel, Maplestead, even though she still has a week to go before we take more XRays to see if the pinned bone has calcified. She is in fabulous condition, a young female, who is exceedingly lively but has to contain her excitement for a week or so. Once we have the new XRays, if all OK, we can remove the pin and then she can go into the Aviary to build up those wing muscles and get some much needed exercise. Lovely bird who has been an excellent patient – it has been a pleasure to look after her and I look forward to seeing her go back into the wild in due course…
