Kestrel Cavendish receives his BTO ring as final step towards release day…
Kestrel Cavendish also received his British Trust for Ornithology (BTO) ring today. I am a great fan of Kestrels anyhow but he is the most adorable little guy I have met. Apart from a few attempts to bite me during the proceedings of fitting his ring and taking measurements, he was overall very obliging and is wearing his “Suffolk Bling” with pride. Where you see the grey feathers on the tail, this is an indication that this young bird is a male despite the fact that his grey head has not yet emerged – this will happen as he matures. He is feeding himself and eating me out of house and home and is certainly ready to go back into the wild. The weather is set to warm up by the end of this week, so the plan is to release him back in Cavendish as soon as this happens. Will miss this little guy but there is probably someone else waiting around the corner to take his place!
